Should I get a Wedding/Event insurance policy?

To insure, or not to insure? This is a question that most couples will struggle with. Many venues in our area will require you to get your own insurance – and there is good reason for that. Wedding venues (Country Palms included) have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars, often millions, into their property. That investment is at risk every time someone steps onto the property – whether it be one person or hundreds. You must understand, even though the venue has a contract with you – You…the nice, calm, happy, loving couple… they have no idea who you will be inviting onto their property. Essentially, the property is being opened up to complete strangers. I’m sure we can all agree… none of us would welcome the thought of giving hundreds of complete strangers access to our property. Why?… one word – Liability. We fear for what could happen.

Your average person is generally willing to “roll the dice” when it comes to things like weather, car wrecks, sickness, catastrophes, etc… because, let’s be honest, those things tend to be rare. However, with a hundred people gathered together, drinking and partying, you’re almost guaranteed to have some sort of issue – property damage, drunkenness, inordinate messes, guests staying late, equipment damage, unsupervised children, underage drinking, etc. After all, your guests aren’t liable for anything – they don’t have a contract with the venue… YOU do.

With that said, Liability is the key factor to consider when contemplating purchasing an event insurance policy. Here at Country Palms you have a choice. Take your chances without insurance if you wish. If you’re willing to trust that there will be no issues, big or small, that will interfere with your special day – go for it – save that $200, cross your fingers, and have faith that everything will be just fine.

On the other hand, if you’re having lots of alcohol, emotional family, small children, wild friends, unsteady elderly, unknown guests…all at your wedding…get some insurance. Chances are, the thing you never dreamed would happen on your wedding day, happens. And that, dear friend, can cost you much more than the money you will surely pay – it will tarnish the memories of your wedding day forever.
